dist[ex] monitor - Report for the third quarter 2026

We monitor channels run by extremist actors on the platforms TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Telegram. We collect metadata such as views, likes and comments and manually evaluate particularly striking posts. Based on this, we provide an overview of current trends and identify key topics and narratives, which we then analyse. The focus is on the phenomena of right-wing extremism, Islamism and conspiracy ideologies. The quarterly reports summarise the most relevant findings and back them up with current social media data.
In the third quarter of 2026, the monitoring focused in particular on the following topics:
1. The ‘Looksmaxxing’ trend and its links to misogynistic and extremist ideologies and actors
2. Content glorifying violence on social media from various extremist groups
3. How far-right extremists visually stage their street protests on social media
4. The exploitation of the Football World Cup by (far-)right actors
